Super Prime - Music Video Shoot DAY 2 @ Stony Brook LI NY

The second day of the Super Prime shoot. February 4th. I was Grip and AC again, we used the same camera (RED1) but this time we used different anamorphic lenses. They were the same brand but they weren’t square and the difference was the glass was a little bit further back on the circular lens making it slightly more difficult to get the lens flares but luckily John was able to get it still and the look matched the rest of the video. 100mm, 50mm, and a 28mm. This shoot was very fun, it was all story and no band. We used two actors a guy and a girl. We actually shot it coincidentally in my home town and that worked out great for me. We shot at the stony brook avalon, harbor road, west meadow beach, the light house, and even did a night time scene in my driveway at my dads place.

John’s make shift dolly track. A couple pipes from a car mount he had and we topped it on two light stands. C stands would have been more sturdy but we needed to get down lower than the C stands would have allowed us.

John with the wide lens. You can see that the dolly is actually just a cheese plate with the four wheel sets strung on with wire ties, and it works great.

Going handheld through the fields with the actors.

Flares are a huge part of the theme to this music video, it  looks awesome and it also helps give it that dream state Christian was looking for when we shot at the sun.

The actors had to conquer walking this tree with their dress type shoes on. This was easy enough for him but she was having a little difficulty that she was able to finally overcome after a few practice takes.

John and Christian viewing playback, again the video will never look as good as the actual image on the viewfinder because this is a cell phone picture.

Location scouting for an awesome tree that fell down during the hurricane we found this big one. I was happy to shoot over on Harbor road because eve since the hurricane I’ve been wanting to shoot something that these fallen trees could give a nice production value look to.

The jeep that “crashed” into this tree. The producer going in to check it out and shoot a fire extinguisher under the car during the scene to give it a smoke look.

Shooting over by West Meadow beach at the light house.

On West meadow beach. There was a row boat scene of the actors drifting off into oblivion.

It was freezing, I felt terrible that the actors had to take their shoes off and he had to step into the water. I was cold in my jacket and gloves.

The golden sky look John got of them drifting off. You can kind of see the difference between the real thing and this monitor if you look back at the pictures of the water and sky.

We went back to my dad’s house to use the lights and set up in the driveway for the car accident scene.

We used a 300 watt and two construction work lights my dad had in his garage to get the flare look and for key light. We would have used a thousand watt but Johns was dead.
